You Can Now Add Videos to Google My Business
In January of 2018 Google My Business got a great new update—videos! Now not only can you show off your business in still photo form, but you can post videos about it as well. This can be your own walkthrough, interviews with the owner, product discussions, and so much more.
While this feature started popping up for a few businesses in August 2017 in the form of adding a video to a local listing via Google Maps, it first was rolled out on the GMB dashboard this year.
Businesses with video will have a “Videos” tab available under their “Photos” tab where all videos will appear right along with your 360 views and still shots. And if you’re one of the businesses that has yet to see this feature, don’t worry, you’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later!
How to Add Videos
To learn all there is to know, Google Support has published information about how to add local business photos or videos. Once you verify your business, you as well as your customers will be able to upload to their heart’s content.
Before you do any uploading, you’ll have to make sure your video fits Google guidelines, meaning it can only be up to 30 seconds long, up to 100MB in size, and have a resolution of 720p or higher.
When you’ve got that sorted out, simply log in to Google My Business and do the following:
- From the menu click “Photos”
- Choose the type of video you’re adding
- Upload the video from your computer
If you’re uploading from a mobile device, open your Google My Business mobile app, tap the Menu icon, then tap “Photos”. Choose the type of video you’d like to add, select it from your camera roll and you’re ready to go!
If your business has 10 or more locations you can upload your videos via spreadsheet.
How to Remove Customer Videos
So, we’re sure you noticed that mention that customers can upload videos as well, as they can do with photos. But what do you do if you’re getting spammed with unwanted video that either misrepresents or has nothing to do with your business?
Like with reviews and photos, you’ll have to flag the video for removal. Once in your GMB account, choose the video you’d like to flag, and click the flag icon in the top right corner. If Google requires more information about the report, they will get in contact with you but if it’s clearly an inappropriate video it will be removed immediately.
Start Filming!
If you’re not sure about where to start with your first GMB video, start off with a professional quality 30 second video discussing what sets you apart from your competition. Video adds an extra level of personality to your business that your clients love. Don’t miss out on taking advantage of this useful new feature and have fun with it!
